Nancy Lee is an interdisciplinary media artist, curator, filmmaker, DJ and cultural producer. Her work stimulates and enlivens space, making a provocative statement about how inescapably interconnected we are with our surroundings. The notion of staging is a constant in Nancy’s work and underpins her projects from a more traditional filmmaker, through her conception and planning of live events, and into the realms of XR and new media performance and installation, where her art practices continue to coalesce and evolve. Nancy is a co-producer and co-founder of CURRENT: Feminist Electronic Art Symposium – an intersectional and multidisciplinary initiative that began in 2017 as an annual multi-day event featuring performances, workshops and panels by women, nonbinary artists and artists of colour. In 2019, CURRENT evolved into a 3-day mentorship program to train future cultural producers with local internship opportunities. Nancy recently co-created VR projects “Telepresence”, a VR 8-channel surround sound live performance with Western Front and “Tidal Traces”, a VR dance film with the National Film Board of Canada. Nancy’s films and interdisciplinary works have showcased at Cannes Film Festival, SXSW, MUTEK Japan, Berlin International Film Festival, Vancouver International Jazz Festival, International Symposium on Electronic Art (Vancouver, South Africa and South Korea), and more. Nancy is a 2018 YWCA Women of Distinction Nominee for Art, Cultural & Design and is named one of BC’s Most Influential Women in STEM for 2018. She currently sits on the board of directors at VIVO Media Arts Centre.
